Training for the Future: Name the Hyperloop
Imagine getting on a train in LA and arriving 35 minutes and 350 miles later in SF.Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, recently revealed the Hyperloop, his attempt to make this seeming pipe dream a possibility. Passengers would zip along in small pods through vast, vacuum-like tubes and an air-bearing suspension system at 700 mph—almost the speed of sound. Amazingly, he claims the project would cost $6B, 10% of the estimated cost of the proposed high-speed rail system between LA and SF. So far, he’s hoping to ‘open source’ the technology and resources needed to build such a behemoth. Even if it remains science fiction, what would you call this next generation of mass transit?
