Tech A-Wear: Another Name for “Wearables”
Forget holding your technology precariously in your hand. Now you can wear it, in the form of smartwatches, fitness monitors, eyewear, shoes, and headsets. (Behold Samsung’s Galaxy Gear smartwatch, Apple’s iWatch, Google Glass, GlassUp, Fitbit Flex, and Nike FuelBand, to name a few). These devices are multi-functional, always-connected, and ‘smart’ or ‘aware.’ Instead of you revolving around your smartphone, your devices revolve around you (physically), using the smartphone as a communication hub to receive and process your data. The current names for this exploding category — “wearable tech,” “wearables,” and “quantified-self devices” — are a mouthful. What catchier names should we try on?
