Slice It & Dice It: Name California’s Sixth State
There’ve been lots of ideas for solving government gridlock in California, but the latest, from venture capitalist Timothy Draper, may be one of the strangest. Draper proposes carving up the Golden State into six smaller ones, which he’s dubbed Jefferson, North California, Central California, South California, West California, and last but hardly least, Silicon Valley. In short, if California’s a a state of mind, Timothy Draper would like it to be one with multiple personalities.
Political and economic viability aside, surely these six Californias deserve more imaginative names—or at least the Californialette closest to our own heart: the state of Silicon Valley, which would include the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and Monterey. Game on, PopNamers . . . start California dreamin’!
