Advance WEArning: Renaming the Presidential Alert

 

On Wednesday, Oct. 3rd, FEMA will test a new ability of the WEA (Wireless Emergency Alert) system on a national level– a Presidential Alert. You may recognize FEMA’s notification system as that long, loud singular tone followed by a text message on your phone informing you of extreme weather or a missing child. This new feature will give President Trump the ability to send a notification to cell phone users warning them of national emergencies such as natural disasters or terrorist threats. Unlike the president’s tweets however, these notifications should not be ignored.
